Melatonin regulates autophagy and inflammation in human trophoblastic cells

Abstract

Melatonin is produced by and protects villous trophoblasts against hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis. However, melatonin’s anti-inflammatory activity and induction of autophagy in villous trophoblasts under H/R have never been investigated.
